Vinalhaven is a beautiful island ten miles off the coast of Midcoast Maine. It happens to be the state's largest off-shore island community, known for its striking natural beauty and for being home to one of the world's largest lobster fishing fleets. One of the leading producers of granite in America, the island features rocky beaches, dozens of parks and hiking trails, and two amazing fresh water quarries. Biking, boating and kayaking paradise, in addition to several island shops and eateries, there's always plenty to do on Vinalhaven.
Here's a few of my favorites (quite a few actually): Surfside and Homeport offer a nice breakfast and the Vinalhaven Candy Company has ice cream (and candy). Greet's Eats is an island favorite for lunch. Visit Dot & Millie's for a delicious evening meal with friends and family. Carver's Harbor Market is a full-service grocery store on main street right next to Island Spirits, the Wine Store. Wind Horse Arts, Creelman Farm Store and Go Fish! are wonderful shops not to be missed. Visit the Sandbar for Trivia Night on Fridays and Skal for live music and dancing. There's even Aerofit, a local fitness facility.
