Located fifteen miles off of the coast of Rockland, Maine in Penobscot Bay, Vinalhaven island is home to a rich quarrying history and thriving lobster and tourism industries. An hour and fifteen minute ferry boat carrying passengers and vehicles comes and goes from the island six times daily.
Among the attractions Vinalhaven has to offer, there are two public swimming quarries, numerous nature and hiking preserves, rocky beaches, and a small downtown. This island community grows substantially between June-September, when summer tourism is in full swing. To accommodate the growing population retail shops and restaurants downtown open for business. On any given day during the summer, there are as assortment of activities to choose from. From nature walks hosted by the Vinalhaven Land Trust to the weekly farmers market, there is always something to do.
